Police from the island, also known as Galiwinku, found
a four-metre boat partly submerged about 60 to 80 metres off the island's southern end, near the entrance of the Cadell Strait.
They said
21 people - most of whom were children aged as young as five - had been
on board when it began to sink at lunchtime on Wednesday.
The boatload was trying to get to the Milingimbi island community, about
75 kilometres west.
