Hi to all

Wondering if anyone has any experiences or thoughts on a Com-Pac 27 as a weekend cruiser

Looking at a 2008 boat at the moment

Had a look on the net and found a review that was mainly positive but said they didn't point all that well compared to more modern designs and that they had some delaminating rudder issues when around 10 years old

Any information would be appreciated

Regards Don

Don, I have never heard of these and with out a provided link had to Google. The one on Yachthub showed up, $99,000 for a secondhand long keel 27 footer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The market is very fluid at the moment and there are some superb boats going begging. Long keel 27/28 footers are particularly cheap. I would suggest sticking with a mainsteam production boat.

Hi Ramona

Sorry about not providing a link

This is the boat i am interested in yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sale/used/sail-monohulls/com-pac-27-sloop/114796 (i assume it was the one you found)

Here is one to the Com-Pac web site www.com-pacyachts.com/compac-cruisers/compac-27-3.html

and another to a review i found on the net www.boatus.com/boatreviews/sail/ComPac27.asp

Regarding other boats available here in Tassie most of the second hand ones available are in the 70's, 80's and early 90's and i was looking for something a bit younger (currently have a 1896 Spacesailer 20 fin keel)

I am looking for something with accomadation for 2 with standing headroom that would be easily handled by myself and my wife

I race on a Jenneau 33 footer and it is a nice boat but i would like something size wise between it and the Spacy so it takes a bit less effort to handle

Any recomendations or thoughts would be appreciated

I think that the Com-Pac is a fairly common boat in the US but theyt dont seem to be well known here

Thanks for you thoughts

Regards Don

Looks like you have one of the earlier Spacesailors Don. The Compac seems to be more of a motor sailer to me than a boat that you could enjoy sailing in any breeze. Certainly has good accommodation but is this what you have in mind in a yacht. The majority of people if they were honest just day sail their boats and spend the odd night aboard. The point about headroom is certainly valid, that and an inboard diesel will transform your sailing experience. The Swanson 28 is Australia's version of the Compac 27, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SWANSON-28-CRUISING-YACHT-LOADS-OF-EXTRAS-Sailing-Yachting-/261254091313?pt=AU_Boats&hash=item3cd3f51231
I have never sailed one but have had a look inside. They would have similar sailing abilities.

Don't worry too much about the age of what's available but go for quality. Well fitted out 30 footer with a furling headsail, lazy jacks and a comfortable cockpit with all the controls back to the cockpit. I'm guessing we are in the same age bracket Don. Doven 30,SS30,Currawong,Carter30. The list is endless. Enjoy your search.
