Morning Bird has CNG for the stove. New regulations mean I can't refill my aluminium SAFGAS cylinders so I need a couple of steel ones.
Can anybody help with where I might get CNG cylinders?

Mate , I havn't heard the term ' CNG' , what is it ? I'm sure you don't mean LPG.

CNG is the same as the gas in your home. It is lighter than air and doesn't pool in the bilge. It is therefore very safe although stored in cylinders at very high pressure . It was going to be the standard back in the early 80s but it didn't kick off here. It is popular in the US. I need high pressure cylinders, not dissimilar to dive cylinders but in steel.

Hi MorningBird,

I have a mate (yes I have one) who works at Blackwoods and I've emailed him to see he has any suguestion on where to buy the cylinders. I know CSIRO got a couple from CIG but I think that was with a refill deal.

You can get them from Advanced Fuels Technology in Melbourne.

www.advancedfuels.com.au/

Its a great way to go from a safety point of view. The specific gravity of CNG at atmospheric pressure is about 0.6 compared to LPG at 1.2, so any leaks will disperse upwards rather than finding a low spot.

New Zealand is very advanced in CNG technology. In Australia, some city buses seem to be the only industry segment that have changed over to using CNG.

Good advice thank you. I rang Advanced Fuels and have sent an email to them. Early days but they might be able to help.

I'll try Keith's suggestion now.

Keith, how is the Northshore going?

It's fantastic I had a problem with the steering chain but had it change and so far touch wood that's been the only problem. Haven't ventured to far away from of Sydney Harbor been as far as Cronulla and she is still teaching me a few things, she loves a good breeze and likes to heel over and go.
Unfortunately My mother and then my younger brother passed away last year and I've been busy handling the estates but that is almost done now so I will have more time for sailing.
