I can't believe boat owners have not worked it out that Airlie beach and surrounding areas are not the place to anchor or hang on a mooring when there is a cyclone! One guy on the news explained how one beautiful rusty old steel yacht dragged her anchor and ended up on the rocks in Bowen. Wow really no way!

I doubt any have or will get covered with insurance and sometimes the clean up bill can be in the thousands.

I spent 3 years living there I always carry full comprehensive insurance and would always use the marina way before the weather gets nasty.

I'm not in the area now but I have had double lines, furler and main lashed since Christmas time.

Been through 2 cyclones living onboard in marinas and have only lost my fishing gaff.

I'm starting to lose my sympathy for these guys.

Obviously these people have more things to worry about than there boat going onto rocks!

I see a lot of "dreams gone bad ", up and down the coast. Especially Airlie and Bowen. This is why I am required to pay $10m Pub. Lia. and clean up guarantee !

What s the cause? Mackay have been through many cyclones......Aussie cyclone chasers are actually saying they doubt Dylan was even cat 2 or if so only for a brief hour.

Highest wind on the coast was around 50 knots at Hamilton island .

Was it due to people not lashing there boats down? Tidal wash?

50 knots is typical southern ocean weather front. I have noted the lack of mask clanging/whistling since being in the tropics down south it's a weekly event!
