I have nothing against sailing on or off the dock. Just don't teach weekend warriors its a good idea. As mentioned there are many safer ways to get a boat out of a marina or off the dock.
The RYA does a great job in general in the UK and gets a lot of people out on the water.

My sailing has always been trying to get from point A too point B without sinking

I'm inspired to learn more about the finer skills of sailing (isn't everyone?) but from a simple practical sense if my motor wasn't working I'd be staying firmly tied up and looking for a local bar and motor repair man

Still great skills to see and inspire too!
