Does anyone have information about the depth of the channels at Newport and Scarborough Marinas.
We are moored at Newport and have hit sand on 2 occasions coming and leaving port at low tide.
Other than embarrassing, it now limits our opportunity to go sailing around tide times etc.
I would have thought that the whole idea of channels is to leave and return to port regardless of the tide.
Is Newport due for a dredge?
Is Scarborough deeper.
Cheers

Hi there

we are also at Newport...in the marina. White Crowther cat in the last pen of C finger + little blue monohull on F finger.

The channel was dredged about 3 1/2 yrs ago.

The problem part is just a little inside the first set of leads where there is a hump. We've had boats up there since 2006 and this hump has always been there. When we had our Cal 34, we regularly played Stuck in the Mud biding our time until we had enough water to get back into the marina.

Don't know whether there's plans for dredging, however, with all the dredging work going on inside Scarby boat harbour in preparation for the new marina, maybe it will carry over to Newport.

We don't have a problem with the cat, but my little keelboat draws 5'4" and we certainly have issues around the bottom of the tide.

Vic at the marina may know when the next dredging will be, alternatively, the Newport Waterways Owners Association.........such an obliging bunch (not!!!).

See you on the water

Thanks Badinfluence, we have a Catalina 30 on A finger and draw 5-6. Sounds like a common occurrence then at the wrong end of the tide. Do you know if the leads into Scarborough are better?
Not that we are going anywhere in a hurry with this breeze :)

We were over at Scarborough for a while with our Cal...still shallow but slightly better than Newport.

I think Scarby was dredged more recently than Newport....and if my theory holds true, thence it should see some dredging to facilitate the new marina being built over there.

Cabbage Tree Creek over at Shorncliffe was being dredged while we were on the hard,, maybe our area will be next??

Maritime Safety Qld may be the horse's mouth to contact??

Cheers
