My boat (which I bought last year) is a 32' converted cray fish boat. It has a large depthsounder (separate from GPS) which seems to be 'flaky' in terms of reliability. The Off button does not seem to work, I can't adjust the depth setting so it beeps regularly at any depth less than 6 metres, few of the adjustment buttons seem to work! A few questions please:
1) Is it possible for me to disassemble the unit and clean the electrical contacts (I suspect they are grimy/corroded)? Is this likely to resolve some of my issues?
2) If I bought a new display unit is it likely to work with the original transducer?
I am very new to this type of electrical equipment and am wondering if this sort of flaky behaviour often happens in boats which sit on sea water for years..........My boat weighs in a 10 tonnes so taking it out of the water just to replace a transducer would be expensive..........
Any help/advice gratefully received............. Thanks Neil

It's going to depend entirely what sounder you have and what the frequency is. Being an ex cray boat the sounder maybe 200 hz or 50 hz and even possibly 28 hz. Check the tag and post up a couple of photos.
