Crewed on one in wa
Pointed well. With a good turn of speed compaired to the current 34ft 15yr old production yacht I'm on. 6kn around 30 degrees off the wind in 15kn was typical from memory. 8.5kn down wind with a kite.

Liked the feel of a tiller over a wheel. Travler adjustment made noticable changes.

Didn't mind 20kn and a bit of coastal work but We did have some extra lead on the keel due to frequent >20kn conditions. We could point higher than a swing keel version we raced against and faster on all points of sail above 10kn of wind.

All comes down to the condition I supose.

bit of a polar opposite to the previous one but a very good coastal cruiser club racer type they usually go a fair bit cheaper than the nolex

Great boat. She has been an active competitor on MB in Newport YC races ( esp. wags) with very good results . Why change the name ?

I am pretty sure affair which did the Hobart in 87 is a far 30

The Illingworth Division was for all older boats, of any design.

A quick flick through my copy of the 1987 Sydney-Hobart programme shows that Affair was a 9.8m Curran design that the owner started building in 1975 as a cruiser-racer. One Noelex 30 has done the race, as has one or two of the 30ft Farr 920 1/2 tonners ( The Liquidator and perhaps one other) but no Binks 30s.

Haven't sailed in over a year so, once I rediscover some self-confidence, I'd like to do WAGS, SAGS and club racing out of Scarborough, north of Brisbane.

It will be good to see you out there. Remember the best way to gain confidence is to just get out there and social race. Everyone is out there to help. Unfortunately we will not be out there for the next 6 weeks as we are heading over to the Med to sail on a clipper ship. Are you going to sail with NCYC or MBBC? Both are great clubs, but NCYC probably sail the better courses for you.

Not sure which club I'll join. I don't want to be constrained to the D Bay triangle forever and anon, so maybe MBBC?

The cat and I are moving aboard, with the girls staying over whenever they feel like, so the boat will be somewhat heavier than now.

I'm planning to relocate to Tasmania one day but I'm not sure whether I'll be sailing this boat there. Displacement is 2205kg with only 587kg ballast. A bit light on??
