Hi all,
First time poster.
My cousin and I have inherited a 1957 built 10 mtr Ex schooner timber fishing boat that has had a lot of money spent on her by previous owner to convert her to a gaff rigged single mast sailing vessel. The problem we have is the deck leaks like a sieve, apparently the owner wanted to lay the deck himself whilst it was in the boat yard getting professionally fitted out, etc. The boat builder advised that whatever the width of the timber he chose to use, make sure the thickness was at least half the width or you will have expansion and contracting problems. Long story short, he sourced Oregon from a recycling joint and they are 75mm wide by what looks to be 20 or 25mm. Looks like he did a great job fitting the deck with the black sikaflex caulking, but vessel has sat idle in a marina for 3 years whilst the owner worked overseas, and as mentioned leaks like a seive. We really dont want to glass over the deck and lose the timber feature, and we really cant afford to relay a new deck (apprx 5K) Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.
