My deck is faded flaking and has cracks. Not surprising for a 1990 boat thats been in the sun every day for years :-)

My question is has anyone had success repainting a fibreglass deck? Im wondering if it could even be resprayed with a new layer of gel coat?

Forget about gel coat. Have a re read of this one.

I love the idea of using the Epigrip (powdered rubber) that cisco enthusiastically recommended. Heh cisco, could you please give us some more hints on where to obtain it? As I'm not having much luck trying to find it with google searches.

After over 30 years in the sun the old girl's deck is chalky and porous. There is one obvious place near a stanchion base that it needs a core repair. I expect when I go looking I will find more places that need core repairs. I am thinking of making paper templates of the existing non skid area patterns, and then sanding off the old non skid to make it easier to blend in the repairs and to ensure the paint adheres to the surface. The old non skid is only shallow, if I tried to paint it without sanding it off I'd be concerned that it would fill the shallow valleys anyway and may not stick since it seems like it would be difficult to clean the valleys properly without sanding it off. But like, I just love sanding, so why wouldn't I sand it off? Like, you have to love sanding to fix up and old boat I figure.

Our deck was the same Trek on a boat twice as old as yours. The anti/skid dimpled surface had worn off and there
were stress fractures from over tensioned stays etc. The Missus fixed it with elbow grease preparation and Perfection
paint. We're not moored too far from you if you want to take a look.
HG has also painted his deck and may comment.

Do you lend out your misses to other boat owner to help with their boats. If you keep spreading stories around about how good she is, someone will try and steal her from you Sam. Very Envious.

You should find it in any chandlery if the product is still made.

International paints bought out Epiglass and have a product called Intergrip which I assume is the same thing.

inter grip I would say is one pack with the included non skid . Sam and Myself use international perfection which is a two pack polyurethane and sprinkled the non sid over the fist coat. I just use a brush from a Aldi $9 pack of brushes they work well throw them out when your done
