HYC News. 17/9/07

Dear sailor,
Humpybong yacht club has now completed three excellent weekends to sailing and the weather has been glorious.
The second of September'saw opening day with three races completed in the best conditions, blue skies, warm water and sunshine with breezes to about 10 knots.

On the ninth of September was the first heat of our Moreton Bay Marine supplies club championships. The weather started out around 8 to 10 knots, with the breezes building to 20 knots for the last race. This soon sorted out who was who, with some spectacular spills and rollovers. Some sailors even had to be rescued as they were parted from their boats and others just got themselves back on the wheels, dusted themselves off and continued on their merry way. The winner of the $50 Moreton Bay Marine supplies like his style draw was Tony Wickings. Don't forget, that if you have any breakages, call in and see Mary and Andy at Moreton Bay Marine supplies and mentioned you are a member of Humpybong yacht club and they will gladly give you a 10% discount on your repair and chandlery needs.
The next club championships will be held on the 14th of October and is proudly sponsored by Brisbane catamaran Centre with another $50 gift voucher lucky sail draw. So remember you have to be there to win it.

Sunday the 16th of September saw the first of our Commodore handicap series sailed in the most perfect conditions you could only dream of, bright sunshine, 27° and 10 to 15 knot north to north easterly winds. A great day was had by all, with over 20 boats at the start line, with more than 15 boats in division two, that is a great effort. Let us see if we can keep this up by giving you the sailor the courses you deserve. Sunday also saw three hartlys present, with a course to die for. It was great to see these boats on the water along with some cat rigged 4.9 taipans, a couple of international canoes, some Nacra 16 squares, and a couple of marie 4.3’s. Division 2 is growing well and is a great Division to race, so if you know anyone who has a 14 or a 16 foot boat and would like a great day out please invite them along.

Don't forget our upcoming events:
Sunday the 23rd September short-course series.
Sunday the 30th September Diggers Memorial. Proudly sponsored by the RSL Redcliffe. This event is one day of a two-day series, the second day will be held on October 28. So if you have missed any of our series so far, then this event may fit your schedule.
Southeast Queensland Class Championships, this is a two-day regatta to be held on the 20th and 21st of October.
Don't forget to let all your friends know will stop
we would like to see monos, catamarans and even 44 gallon drums strapped together for a great weekend of sailing. Just lok for the Professional Real Estate Woody Point marquiee that wher we will be.

If you would like any information on the upcoming events please call Russ McDonald on 32031330. Or
Peter Bradbury on for 33514657.

Dear Sailors and Associations,
Humpybong Yacht Club’s, Southeast Queensland Class Regatta, is definitely one not to miss. It is being held this coming weekend, the 20th and 21st of October 2007. Many classes and sailors have expressed interest in attending what we believe will be the best sailing and fun regatta for all the family to enjoy. Breifing on Saturday not before 11.30am with races 1,2,3, not before 12.30pm and Sunday briefing 9.30am races 4,5,6. Not only will the racing be second to none, but the after party on Saturday night should be a beauty.

Humpybong Yacht Club has invited Ian Gough to bring along his video and camera to gain footage of the weekends antics on the water. For those of you who do not know Ian, he is a sailor, and knows where to put the camera to get shots. Ian is also bringing along his big screen to show all the family you're doings on the race course on Saturday night. You will be able to enjoy watching yourself on the big-screen, after you and your family have enjoyed a barbecue steak and salad and desert dinner. The dinner will be available from the club for $12 per head (children under 10 eat for free with a paying adult).
A lucky sail draw, for some Magic Marine Gear, will be drawn between
6 p.m. and 7pm and you must be there to win a prize.
The club has a table tennis table that you may want to create a tournament on, or just a few quiet drinks and some stories from the past.

Don't forget that camping at the club is free for Friday and Saturday nights. If you arrive early on Friday please do not set up a tent until someone from the club arrives. We will discuss your needs then for camping. Someone will be available at the club from around lunchtime Friday.
So bring along your boat, your tent, your family, and make it a great weekend.

For more infomation please go to www.hyc.net.au

See you there

Southeast Queensland Class Regatta Roundup.

Last weekend saw Humpybong Yacht Club host our first regatta of the season, The Southeast Queensland Class Championships. It was well supported by 46 entries forming four divisions, competitors travelled from as far away as the Northern Rivers in New South Wales and as far north as Hervey Bay on the Queensland coast.

For the first time in approximately 10 years Humpybong Yacht Club saw a small fleet of junior sailors, sailing in a class of Minnows. The youngsters range from seven years to eleven years old and were the greatest entertainment from a spectator point of view with their course being set just in front of the clubhouse. Their sailing abilities would put some of us oldies to shame. It was great to see and if things go to plan in the future we hope to see our own fleet of youngsters are very soon.

The senior fleet again had fantastic numbers and the course set was one to be enjoyed. Not one complaint, that says to me that our starters John and Joan Cheeseman and the crews on the rescue boats did a brilliant job in delivering first-class sailing. Well done and thank you. We were also blessed with Phill and Jenny's large 32 foot catamaran as a start boat, this enabled us to use our rescue craft for the purpose in which they are intended. Thank you to them. We also had some crews on a rescue craft that were of familiar faces to some the likes of Lex Klein, and John Le fleur lending a hand along with Dave Jones, these are volunteers that have not sailed for a considerable period of time. Thank you to them. These guys are relieved the pressure’s of the sailors to compete in the regatta.

Saturday evening was our steak in salad and desert night. Well, that went better than plan, with some 80 meals being served. Thank you to all the ladies who helped out in the canteen as that is the lifeblood of our existence. A big thank you to Magic Marine for their very generous donation of sailing gear for a lucky sailed draw. I would like to thank everybody that helped out in the organising and the execution of this event. It has proved we can put on a first-class event.

Thanks to all those look club helpers who assisted myself and Matthew on the junior start boat, they were, Abbey Smith, Matthew Hatton, Zane Bradbury, analyst of all Jack Johnson who was only four. Without your help honour would not have known which flags to use.

Thank you to Ian Gough our cameraman for the weekend who brought along his big-screen to entertain us all on Saturday evening. Showing us all our mistakes and taking lots of photos of each and every boat. So if you would like a copy of the weekend don't forget to contact him on PH: 38143505

On another note I has some exciting news for the club, we look as if we will be playing host To the Mirrors loan joining our club and seek to sail their each and every Sunday. This is a step in the right direction for us and we welcome them with open arms.
