Club Marine, the supposedly boatie supporter insurance company wouldn't insure my seaworthy Matzcraft 35 without a survey. Pathetic after I have insured with them many times and only ever made a claim for a stolen outboard motor 20 years ago.
I rang YOUI who advertise on TV after a friend suggested I do so, they insured it immediately no problem over the phone.
Similar for a friend with a Hutton 25 and I think a Mottle33 owner on this forum as well.
Yep - Club Marine are awful for second hand boats. I was getting a survey on mine anyways when I got it slipped the first time (to let me know what needed to be done), but even with a survey report, Club Marine wouldn't insure it as I asked for a value of only $2000. The rep straight out said that they don't insure anything that's worth less than $1000 a foot - which automatically rules out pretty much anything under 30ft.
Youi on the other hand, weren't even interested in a survey and quoted me a pretty good price straight off on third party insurance, with the option to add racing cover when I was ready. Told them I just needed to check with my wife, they put me on hold and came back 2 mins later with a price $15 a month less. So yeh, really easy to get a good price from.
Haven't come across anyone who's needed to claim Youi boat insurance yet, but I know their Motorcycle guys were pretty good on paying up.
