Well following a catastrophic incident on my yacht, lovely van de Stadt 34 (aluminium hull) I have had to make a claim on insurance, first time ever. I have to praise Nautilus Marine Insurance in Fremantle and their assessor from Verifact. It is now four weeks since a fire damaged my boat to such an extent that it is classed as an insurance write off, and we have just concluded the claim process.
I know Nautilus are regularly spoken about as being expensive in comparison to some other companies, but as they say you get what you pay for, as I have found out. The process was made far easier by keeping all receipts, regularly update photo records and keep a record of all maintenance. I shall write a further post about the incident and lessons learnt, and also if anyone is after a very cheap project yacht that could easily be made sailable in a weekend then contact the assessor Sandeep at Verifact Perth 08 9202 1811.
