Hi,
I've been told that it is better to keep salt water in the bilge of a GRP/wood composite boat and to wash down the decks so that the salt can get into the hair line cracks, this will in turn help preserve the wood. Is this fack or fiction

Salt water in the bilge is good for a wooden hull. The downside is the salt water will condense on the deckhead, bulkheads and under the cockpit as freshwater and that is not good. Fungi will form in those hidden spots and vertigrae will plague your wiring. Best is a dry bilge. If you have saltwater in the bilge it will invariably have some diesel and engine oil in it as well. Keep this to a minimum or aim for dry.
