Does anyone have experience/advise on Manitou or Compass for extended cruising.
Any feedback will be a bonus.

My choice would be a Compass. Not based on experience of either, I just think the Compasses are a more proper looking yacht. I have been told a couple of times that the Compass 28s are a better yacht than the 29s.

I think it would be easier to resell a Compass than a Manitou, however Manitou owners sing their praises. Try speaking with owners of both or better still someone who has owned both. Cheers Cisco

Thanks fellas, have viewed websites and a couple of boats, slowly formulating my own opinion. Lots of scrubbers about, overpriced and on the market for well over 6 mths. Wonder why 28 sails better than 29? Bit more research before I'm ready.

As I understand it, the 29 is a cut-and-shut of the 28. With the extra length, she also gets almost a foot of extra beam, so loses the shape of the 28. Whereabouts are you looking?

Looking at every web site I can reach, but primarily east coast, couple appear in NZ. Have tried both Compass and Manitou sites but no response to date. Viewed one compass in Port Douglas and a Manitou in Mackay, Manitou is restricted below to say the least but I've only seen in one. Compass appears more the go, can change layout better to suit my needs, but again info hard to get on performance and maint issues due to age. Prices also interesting, noted $2, $3 & $5K difference on the same boat with different brokers.
Anyway thanks for your replies, will keep looking.
