On mine the mooring line is just attached at the bottom. It's not designed to take any load, just pick up the mooring line from the water. Yours might be different.

Mine is the same as Bob's. I don't have the shackle at the bottom, just a spliced length of line (almost the length of the pole) that can be attached to the main mooring line. The loop at the top is so you can use a boot hook to grab it if it is too far away to reach.

A small tip, put some white reflective tape on the pole so it can be seen at night. The loop length at the bottom means that it be a bit of a distance from your mooring bouy when sitting on a breeze.

I hadn't actually seen one setup before. I just ended up with the home made item and thought it would be helpful when trying to grab the mooring buoy in stronger winds.
What I ended up doing was feed 16mm rope up the conduit with a tied off lopp at the top, and on the bottom end left out 1.5m and tied it to a carabiner.
The idea is to leave the pole on the deck and clip it to the mooring line when we leave for the day.
I do like the idea above of feeding the mooring buoy down the pole to keep it afloat a little better.
