Hi I have an 18foot Cat and wanting to visit Tangalooma. I've been reading up an won't attempt it if any sign of westerlies. I have a mooring organised but won't to know am I being too ambitious to make the crossing say from manly over in a day? Or am I better to take longer and cross over to peel then to the sand hills ect???

Hello Catagory5

welcome to the forum

What type of cat do you have? What condition is she in?

Have you done the trip with someone else before? If not, might be good to do a reconnaissance to familiarise yourself with the Bay and her moods plus landmarks on Moreton and the mainland.

What preparations and gear are you planning on having aboard?

If it is an off-the-beach cat, then you should have a good turn of speed and have no problem whatsoever making Moreton in a day. If you're at all concerned, aim for the Sand Hills first, then stick close to the island as you make your way up to Tangalooma. Depth, for you, won't be an issue. Personally, I can't see any value in going to Peel first if your ultimate destination is Moreton. Value yes, in terms of it being a nice place to visit, but no advantage in ultimately getting closer to Moreton.

Why have you organised a mooring rather than just pulling the boat up on the beach?

Hi she is a Jarcat safety and condition I have everything on board and a marine rescue member. I chose a mooring as I thought it maybe be more secure after reading other forums. I haven't done the trip before with anyone but since my post have had second thoughts after reading more and am going to take a step back get familiar with maybe a trip to peel then over to the sand hills ect my cat in excellent order and I usually have no trouble with beaching I think I will go with this plan rather than the mooring when I get to that stage. I will start a little smaller. Thanks for your reply
