Have any of you had experience with National Luna Fridges. The starting price is up around the $1,800 mark for a 50L. When I saw one in a shop the other day the sales person referred to it as a piece of gold (probably due to the price) and said they were developed in S/Africa for transporting medical stuff (like blood). The price of these fridges probably results in them not very common but it would be good to hear from someone with first hand experience.

Sorry everyone, but I not really interested in hearing how good you think your favourite Engel or Waco is (or what a better option would be) so please don't hi-jack the thread.

Quote from them below
Did you know? Techniice is the actual brand used by Department of Defence, CFA, SES, Police, Ambulance, Qantas, Air France, KLM, Dept of Primary industries, Royal Flying Doctor Service, McDonalds, Australian Navy, Air Force, Coles and thousands of other companies and government departments worldwide that require the highest level of cold chain performance and reliability.

They same much the same thing and half the price

The national Luna seem to have better insulation

or plus what ever insulation they insert and the outer shell material

Thanks HG02. Some of the Techniice range look a bit like the Waco's with a different badge. And any fridge that comes with an optional insulation cover makes me ask why didn't they put enough insulation in when it was built.

I'm sort of interested in getting (dreaming of) the Luna 40L version (with 60mm insulation) to use as a Freezer. This unit is actually designed to be a freezer but can be used as a fridge and not the other way around like some others. Getting gear through the companion way on my boat is not too much of an issue, it's where to put it once I've get it inside the boat. There is already a fridge in the boat, but after a week out at sea it mostly holds cold drinks (of the medicinal kind) and could really be turned off except for when entertainment might be on the horizon. I also found that the existing 50L freezer (which uses about a staggering 100+ah/day) can hold more that I need.

I've been looking and I can't find any other freezers which will fit straight into where I want to put it without doing some boat surgery. (Unfortunately, boat surgery converts directly into Boat Bucks)

According to the brochure I got from the shop, the Luna fridge electrics (like some other brands) also detects when the batteries are being charged and increases the compressor speed to take advantage of the additional power.

I didt find the Luna where I was looking about . But I did think of adding my own insulation on the out side to help the power used of what ever fridge freeze .
Was hoping to buy some AeroGel to do this with , but the freight logistics came in concerning the volume and I have not done that a yet but if the opportunity arises I may .One other thing comes to mind some fridge makes use 12 volt/24 volt with also a 240 volt as a marina feature . The hardest thing is buying something you can get down your companion way . I did not really want to make my own and built in in there Ive made enough mess dust and crap floating around
What ever you decide make sure its got plenty of good insulation thats the main trouble in buying one against making your own and it uses the less power off a solar panel.

Luna seem to have 240 volt as part of the build
