I have a new keel design for a catamaran based on 40 years of design experience in another field of water sports, so I know this hull shape very well. I'm not a sailor so I need an experienced cat sailor to carry out further testing with a 5m prototype beach cat.

This keel design has many advantages over the 'state of the art' round hull wave piercer design, one of them being speed.

This is a unique keel design which has progressed through modelling to the 5m prototype. I'd like to hear from anyone interested in getting involved with this project.

There sure is room for more improvements in hull designs, its not just how fast you can push a hull through the water or over it!
But it's the sail to weight ratio and ease of handling too. Crowther died way to soon and was on his way to designing even better hull shapes, and wind surfers cottoned on to good designs in the 90's.
iv always thought we should copy fish like whiting etc. or dolfins in our hull shape, nature has been at work for a long time.
Where are you base Rob8?

Hi Dezman,

I'm in Redcliffe, Brisbane's north.

My design is based on foil technology but in a different way to the foils we see now. All hulls could be said to be foils, it's just that some are not good foils. Foils also have to be oriented to give lift to windward and to the vertical for less drag.

Hey Rob8 great spot for test sailing you got there.
I'm trying to remember A name and all I can Come up with is 'ocean 50' a cat called fantasia the guy built in in his backyard on Russell island. Bottom SE part, can't for the life of me remember his name. He is well worth looking up for a chat over hull designs and he loves to go fast. There was a write up in mutti hull mag about his 50 ft cat he designed and built, then took it around the world to prove its worth.
Wish I could give you more to go on, please try and find him as he knows his stuff too and He will remember me 'Desmond' .
We were chatting about how a crowther hull is very broad to start with and tapper back, which he put into his cat.
Good luck and wish I was up there too.

Thanks for the encouragement, but the big guys don???t want to talk to you unless you have an established track record of success.
Another dis-encouragement is that this is new, never been seen before, and is not yet understood by the experts. The principles are not new and already understood, just the way they have been applied in this hull shape.
I???ve been trying to get interest for 5 years and have decided I have to do it myself with the help of an enthusiastic experienced sailor.

Hi Brett,

Yes it does fit the F16 box rule.

While I would like to get interest in my design, and this is not meant to derogatory, but I know that looking at it is probably not going to reassure you except that it looks like an ordinary cat above the waterline - an asymmetric cat. It could be made symmetric above the waterline if, only for purely aesthetics reasons.

Again, not being derogatory, I don't need anyone's judgement on its possible performance, at this stage I need it to be demonstrated. I'm happy to talk about though.

Hi Rob,
I am considering getting a F16 in the near future and have investigated the distrubution of one of the class leading manufacturers through my business.
Does the prototype exist or are you seeking a sailor to build your prototype at their own expense. Remembering the hull cost is only around 3/8 of the on water cost.
As I have ready access and the ability to finish, rig and sail the cat, I was offering more than a simple visual appraisal of your design.

brett221. Did you get my private email?

I'd like to keep in contact with you for the near future as I'm not yet up to the stage of preparing to market my hull shape. But, if all goes well, I hope to be able to do something soon.

This is my second prototype which I've nearly finished - the reason for the second prototype is purely cosmetic, as I explained I my email. I was in the business for many years in my younger days of fibreglass fabrication, designing and building all my own plugs and moulds. The prototype building has not been a problem.
