Hi all,
I'm looking at getting Memory-Map QuickCharts with a view to printing and then laminating the charts of interest to me in A3 size (a manageable size for me).
I will use these primarily for reference and maybe recording my tracks with an erasable pen.
I mainly use my Raymarine C80 MFD (Navionics charts) for navigating, as well as iNavX (Navionics charts as well).

so, comments anyone?

Whats the quality of QuickCharts charts like?
Is it straight forward to print full color A3 size charts?
etc.,

regards to all,
Allan

Allan,
I have the Memory Maps Quick charts and am very happy with them. You get the entire Aust chart package for a very reasonable price. They are every bit as good as the paper charts because that is exactly what they are.
Printing however seems to be an issue. I have been mucking around with printing just this morning and while printing is possible I can't seem to get it to print in landscape. The print area would be about A5 size. You can upgrade to a 'pro' package and this will allow you to print to a larger size but to what size I don't know. A3 would be all you'll need if you can figure it out.

Oh also, my intention was to put the maps I needed onto a thumb drive and have them printed off, but this doesn't seem possible either..

Hey Allen, I have managed to print in landscape and it is somewhat better. I don't have any A3 paper but I will try and get some and see how it prints. I would think you would need to be using laser jet as oppose to ink jet with the amount of ink going onto the paper.

Will let you know.

Hi Toph,
Thanks for that feedback. I had in mind getting the charts of interest printed & laminated by someone like Officeworks, who according to their website, would charge just under $5 each for A3.
Obviously, I would need to supply them with standard format files (pdf, jpg, bmp, etc).
What format are the chart files?

allan

Depending on who you encounter at Office Works, you may have to prove you have copyright clearance to get the charts printed.

How does this work ? Sorry if this is a stupid question but ...... Isn't there a risk of the scale being distorted when changing the size of these charts ?

The scale may change but you take your distances from the eastern or western side of the chart, so it doesn't matter.

Good point Phoenix, memory-map tech-support in answer to my query about printing, assured me that it was possible to print A3 and no cautions re copyright, so I guess they don't have a problem with it.
May have to clarify this with memory-map.

I have printed off quiet a few of the charts at random and measured the charts stated distance between charts and the distance measured with dividers and the scale of the printed chart and there is now (accurate) difference.

Memory Maps I doubt would care about copywriter. They are just the provider of the GPS software. The maps you use are up to you.

Memory Map doesn't have the copyright, the Commonwealth Government does. It is that that concerns some Office Works employees.

True, but the 'license' allows for printing and that is not in this case hard to prove......

Thanks . I guess if the machine reduced it exactly the same amount both ways it would be fine .
