Watching RBT tonight (sad yeah) and a guy got breatho at scotsmans island Pittwater (bottle shop run) and the cops where right on him cause he took a Sip of his newly acquired Crownie!
Told him he should wait till he was finished boating? And it's against the law to drink beer under the limit boating?
What's the limit again for boating?
wow I'm sticking to oars and sails from now on!

Same rules apply to boats as for cars, but also means any points you get boating applies to your car licence as well

Easy to loose your car licence in your boat!!!!!!!!

PS, that episode is as old as anything!

Yeah I know I'm waiting for the latest episodes. (Not) .

But i always disagree with that law. You should be able to enjoy a beers while sailing/boating as long as your under the limit....so you can't even sip a light beer while holding the wheel/tiller? Going to hit a bump and spill it?

I though they made aluminium can for beer so you could put them on a holder beside the steeling compass and not affect the course. Wrong again .

For you young whipper-snappers, beer use to be in steel cans, not good for the compass.

And since march this year you gotta carry id on a push bike. They also pushed the fineup for not wearing a helmet to 350 from 50. So if you live in say manly or kiama and you.wanna use your pushy to check surf or to go for a surf it could cost you a small fortune. Bloody ridiculous.

Que Sera Sera, who said Australia is not a police state, who said we are not ruled by non representative bureaucracies, who said we have any say in the laws, rules and regulations that our political and bureaucratic masters wish to pass on our so called behalf, we no longer have a Government, it is a rulership of the corrupt, incompetent and downright arrogant, and there is nothing anyone can do about it, we have all been sold as slaves to the United Nations whims, get used to it because its not going to change the Nanny State is here to stay. (End of monologue, soapbox speech, or rant whichever floats your boat, pass a beer and no wucking forries mate). sorry if I've offended anyone.

There might be a technicality here. I just looked at all the law quoted for the subject and it does say the operator of a vessel must be "Less than 0.05 for recreational vessel operators over 18 years" but it doesnt say you cant hold a drink. (Read: www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/safety-rules/offences-penalties.html)

Does anyone remember anyone actually busted for steering holding a beer? I know you do get busted if you are and are over 0.05. I often have a beer in my hand at the helm though we have a "no one over 0.05" rule on board regardless for our own safety unless anchored. I found that reduces the cuts and bruises that happen to the crew and reduces the likely hood of one going over the side so its worth it.

I dont think that guy at Scotland Island got busted did he ?

Any lawyers here .......
