I am installing Raymarine evo 100 wheel pilot, can anyone let me know if I can use the st 3000 wheel drive unit that is already installed in pedestal and connected to wheel and working and wire that drive unit into the raymarine acu 100.

I have big pedestal and the gap between wheel and bulkhead is to narrow for attaching wheel mount of new drive

thanks

Hi Trev,
I have a tiller version of this. I bought an installed an EVO100 tillerpilot. I looked up the specs for the tillerdrive it was supplied with, and it is an ST4000.
So I can't see any reason why yours wouldn't be a straight swap?

Thanks Shaggy, that's what I was hoping . By all my looking around it seems the that the only technology raymarine hasn't changed is the drive unit for the wheel drive, and with the installation manual the whole unit come with is for the st4000, but it is still cheaper to keep the complete package than buy the ACU, Sensor Core, p70 control head and cabling kit individually.

hi mate
i have ev100 fitted on my boat with old st4000 wheel drive .
my last sail the old wheel drive did not like it.
it had been fine for 6 months in lighter conditions but when the wind picked up and the sea state increased it was sending a drive unit failure message saying it had stopped working what a pain in the arse that was.
not sure if motor was old and tired or the old cable was 10amp and new install calls for 15 amp cable i havent been able to look at it yet to determine fault but the lesson here is replace ALL THE OLD WITH NEW.

I have a very robust CPT Wheel Pilot that is not that 'smart' due to an outdated magnetic type controller. I asked a Raymarine tech guy if I could connect a Raymarine Controler and Course Computer to it. He said all I had to do was disconnect the existing control unit then run a 15 amp pos and neg wire between the course computer and the CPT motor. Have not done this yet but it is on my to do list.
