The question was asked some time ago about suitable glues for repairing inflateable boats.

I replied with a very strong recommendation not to use cheap glues and that the best option was to pay the big price for "Zodiac" glue.

This of course only applies the plastic/PVC/Decitex boats and not Hypalon boats such as Avons or older Achilles boats. They need a rubber glue.

In describing the method of glueing patches to PVC boats I said the surfaces need to be prepared using M.E.K. (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) before applying the glue. M.E.K is also the main solvent in the glue.

The most common use of M.E.K. is by plumbers as a primer for PVC pipe joints. Buying M.E.K sold as plumber's priming fluid is also the cheapest.

It has only just occurred to me that the glue the plumbers use is the same type of glue (if not exactly the same) as the "Zodiac" glue.

I have not tried it yet for repairing an inflateable and am not likely to soon, but when I do I will let you all know how it goes.

The plumber's glue come in blue, red and clear. Clear is the obvious choice.
Cheers Cisco.
