The Augnagrial Sports Boat and O'pen Bic Challenges, “the Rumble in the Reach” are on again. This event is without doubt the best spectator sailing event you will ever see. Spectators are welcome to enjoy the event from the EFYC bar.

The East Fremantle Yacht Club is very excited to be part of the growing Sports Boat and O'Pen BIC communities in Western Australia. We share their mantra that “life is too short to sail slow boats”! As such in 2011 EFYC launched the Rumble in the Reach, an event which showcased these two classes to spectators and the broader public. With racing in close confines and in easy view of our Club House; spectators can share in the excitement that comes with sailing in these classes.

A wind of change is what the O'Pen BIC has brought to the world of dinghy sailing for kids. Young sailors now have a true glide machine for real excitement on the water. The O'Pen BIC, with its modern and powerful rig, is not only a fun boat for pure enjoyment on the water, it is also a fast boat which is quick to respond. The O'Pen BIC is THE _link_ between the Optimist generation and the new generation of sailing dinghies.

With the growth of the Sports Boat Fleet in WA comes the opportunity to experience the adrenalin rush created by the sheer acceleration and planing abilities of these boats. This class is simple to rig, transport and sail, its open transom bails water instantly even in extreme conditions - making it the perfect choice for those with a hectic life_style_.

On Saturday 14 January 2012, East Fremantle Yacht Club will showcase this season's Rumble in the Reach and open its doors to the General Public so they can enjoy all the thrills and spills of this close quarter racing on the river. Live race commentary will be provided throughout the afternoon by well known WA sailing identities.

The morning kicks off with the 2012 O'Pen BIC Challenge at 11:00am. The schedule will comprise of two qualifying races followed by a final race. Come and see some of the States upcoming Junior Sailors battle it out in this fast paced race.

The action packed afternoon of festivities will commence with the first of two heats at 2:00pm. The top finishers in each heat will battle in the final to be crowned the “2012 Sports Boat Challenge Champion”. Following racing sailors are invited back to the Clubhouse for the Presentation and some celebratory food and drinks.

To enter this event, contat East Fremantle Yacht Club Office by on 9339 8111 or email [email protected] .

East Fremantle Yacht Club will make every effort to accommodate your vessel before and after the event. It is important that you complete the berthing questions on the Entry Form and notify us should there be any change.

A mandatory skippers briefing for all Sports Boat Entrants will be held in the River Room at East Fremantle Yacht Club on Friday 13 January at 6:00pm. The O'Pen BIC sailors are required to attend the pre-race briefing on Saturday 14 January at 10:00am in the Junior Training Room at East Fremantle Yacht Club.

We look forward to you taking part in this unique event.

Who sells these boats

He does! no mention that it takes 4 kids to lift one and the only seating position is on the hind quarter, no matter which direction or breeze the boat is travelling in.
What ever happened to the minnows, sabot's and northbridge juniors?

why the hell would you get 4 kids to lift one when 1 can just use a trolley
and the reason why you always sit in one spot is cause they always go fast unlike the other classes you mentioned

minnows, sabot's and northbridge juniors are all very old hat, the youth do not want to sail old boats, they want something modern and looks the part, the Open Bic fits the bill and are very cheap to buy. If you have not look at the Bic yet then it is worth a look, it has improved fleet numbers dramaticly at every club that has introduced them. As well it is an reconised international class that already has more boats sailing than the Opi.

The O'pen and sportsboats are great, so do you really have to spout rubbish to promote them?

The Bic class report to ISAF states that there were 4000 O'pens built in the last 5 years and 4500 boats in existence worldwide. See

http://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/BIC2012ClassReport-[11880].pdf

The Optimist class reports 18,406 boats built over the last 5 years (and pays dues on them), and gets up to 998 sailors for a single regatta!

There is no way that the Bic is bigger than the Opti. Apart from the fact that it's simply wrong, since the Bic class says only 4500 have been built either you or the class are BSing.

If "life is too short to sail slow boats" then why get into something as slow as an O'pen or a sportsboat, instead of getting into cats, kites or fast big boats? Try lining a T7 up against a Tornado. And even in cheap kid's classes, a Hobie Bravo would kick an O'pen all away around the course.

Why be so negative about other classes and sailing? If I was an EFYC member with a traditional boat and someone was saying that the club thought that 'life was too short to sail slow boats' then I'd probably get out of the club ASAP. For most people, slow boats are fantastic.

And no, I an NOT knocking sportsboats or Bics, merely knocking anyone who slags off slow boats that others love, because they have the arrogance to assume that those who choose different types are in the wrong.
