G'day everyone, does anyone know a place to buy SAE 40 Monograde inboard diesel oil near Brisbane? I spent about 30minutes on the phone today phoneing all the places I could think of but came up empty . Cheers.

Just use shell rimula, designed for heavy use and maintains oil pressure really well, in my experience.

I'm not sure what the situation is where you are, but in Melbourne, Mariner Engineering sells(or at least last time I changed my oil) genuine Yanmar oil at prices similar to the auto-shops. Its about the only thing that is reasonably priced there.

I'm fairly confident Queensland has tractor dealers and farmers supply shops. You may have to buy 20 litre containers there though.

Hi, that was the position that I had adopted until I noticed the oil pressure dropping as the engine got hotter, switched to Rimula after discussing situation with a bobcat owner operator, which coincidentally used the same base engine, and oil pressure remains high.

This stuff is SAE30 and available at Supercheap and I think Bunnings. I used it in my marine gear

you can easily use the commonly available 15 W 30 or 40 grade diesel engine oils (even Bunnings sells these these day). Viscosity really comes into effect when the outside temperature can be freezing, not an issue in australia. Plus your old engine will be happier with higher viscosity oil anyways. The only thing to look out for is that you should not mix synthetic with traditional oils if you do not want your seals changed soon. I changed the oil on the 2QM every 200 hours though and if I used it a lot in summer even at 150 hours.

That looks perfect. The only thing with oils in old engines is do not use synthetic oils. That shop assistant is probably not aware that trucks have diesel engines!

no, dont mix petrol oil into a diesel engine. A diesel oil is specifically built for diesel engines and has a higher heat and wear index and also extra additives to prevent sludge build up. It will work in the short term as an emergency solution

Always best to look at the API spec on the oil container and find out what it means so it can be determined if that particular oil suits your engines requirements

Eventually tracked down the last 20l can of truck mono in Brisbane aparently at Repco this morning- I'll update you all how it goes once I've run it for a bit. Cheers .

That oil is perfect for what you want, it even states that it is suitable for diesel engines, right there under the word "Convoy". Plus the Penrite website confirms it in their blurb regarding this oil just in case they made a typo on their packaging label

It's a very rare time that you find someone in SuperChinese that knows anything as for the most part they are shirtbox salesmen and unfortunately this is a situation found throughout the majority of retail chain outlets.

that a CF grade you look at the api no yours is CF-2/CF/SG
