Pete,
Have you sailed before?
Cyclone season from Nov to Apr.
Norherlies satart coming abt Oct- best time to go with the wind behind.
Suggest you contact local Coastguard or VMRs for conditions in their area.
LOG ON.
Good luck. If you have to ask that question then I for one wouln't sail with you.

Wow, big trip for your first solo ocean journey. Wouldn't it be best to build up for it, go out to sea for a day, then overnight, then the weekend?

Seriously! Why not tri a Capercat. 14' built in icebox, storage compartments. Easily right able after a capsize. Cheap boat. No experience necessary. No lights. No radio.
Could be THE boat for the SERIOUS sailor, you make yourself out to be.
Cheers

Hi Pete,
I am an experienced offshore sailor and my advice is dont embark on this fool hardy trip. I have had to do a survival at sea course just to be able to compete in races for shorter distances. And this is on much bigger boats than yours (50ft).
My advice is test your seamanship inshore first, test how sea worthy your boat is, and get a feel what it will be like not sleeping whilst you look out for container ships who will not see you.. (and they wont)
Once you set off remember that once things break (and they will) you just cant get off and fix them. If you run out of water you cant just buy some more. If you hit a reef you dont have a way of issuing a mayday no one will come.. btw VHF wont help beyond line of sight..
if you do go.. and people have to save you remember that you will distract resources from essential services.. and because you ignored this warning you will be slapped with the bill.. and it will be huge...
my advise is start off small and work your way up.. and dont put other lives at risk
cheers
