I am currently considering a journey from queensland to thailand via png, I have plenty of boat experience but 0 sailing. so i am likely to join a sail club and begin. also have been looking at the seawind 24' catamaran... a few questions,.. would a year be enough time to prepare for such a journey (sailing experience wise), how long roughly would this take,. would this vessel be suitable seen as the longest stretch of water that would be undertaken is roughly 150km, any suggestions/thoughts on the topic would be greatly appreciated ..

You could do it in a Seaward 24, but I wouldn't.
Can I suggest you start at step 1, go to your local sailing club and start sailing and also enrol in sailing courses. Then decide on your trip and type of boat, sailing realy isn't that simple, it does take some experience to master and there is a lot to know if you want to do it well.

Keith, I'm in Phuket at the moment and last week was at Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and the feeling here at present is that it is probably more of a problem in New Guinea and Indonesia than the Malacca Straits or the Andaman Sea.
