Can anyone put a name to this knot and how it is tired? (google has not been my friend on this one) Used as a stopper on traveller and leech lines, also good to grip. Thanks
It looks like a halyard knot with extra turns arouund the standing part. If it is that and becomes pulled up tight you might not be able to get it undone which is the idea behind the halyard knot.
That is a heaving line knot. Cousin of the hangman noose. Used to make a temporary heaving line when you don't have time for a monkey fist. I hadn't thought of it as a stopper knot but it is good and bulky so why not? Several web pages on how to tie it.
