Really lovely. That fold out SS basin in the head brings back memories travelling in the train from Melb. to Bendigo as a kid.

Stunning boat but sold! Surprised she is alloy! That must have been an incredibly expensive boat when she was built.

I am curious as to how it would sail or would it be a motor sailor

I have never sailed on a gaff rigged boat and only once on a boat with running back stays

When I was a kid Pacha appeared around the point at Hallet's Beach in Broken Bay in the early morning sun and I fell in love. In those days a Northerner 28 was the latest everyman's boat, Dave Ingall's `Gidgee' was sexy as and `Meltemi', `Stormy Petrel" and `Boomerang' were the latest in sailing technology.

Even Wild Oats couldn't elicit the same reaction in me years later in the early 2000s when she was launched.

I keep looking at the advert and thinking I like that boat a lot but she is not the kind of boat I would normally look at so I am a bit confused at the moment

I like to turn the motor off as soon as possible after leaving the mooring so I might get frustrated if I had a boat that didn't sail well

It's a lovely boat and would make a good cruiser. Probably not a boat to just day sail for fun. Need a good breeze to get going and would sail well off the wind. Close hauled I reckon you would need the motor. The owner of this would probably spend most of his time sitting around in comfortable anchorages commenting on various forums of the virtues of various bristles in varnishing brushes!

Great Tassie cruising boat save for one big issue.
30hp engine, replace it with 60hp.
A 27hp three cylinder is going into Defiance and it only weights 3600kg.

I think i enjoy the act of sailing too much and fiddling with things to get the boat pointing higher or sailing faster to buy a boat boat that is biased towards down wind sailing

I think you picked that one like a dirty nostril except I don't think the owner would have time to discuss the virtues of various bristles in varnishing brushes because he will be spending all his time using them!!

In keeping with my tradition of posting slightly off-topic:

These old wooden gaffers can be surprisingly adventurous. We met up with this old girl in Patagonia in March '16:

They were returning from the Antarctic Peninsula and chasing penguins at Ilas Diego Ramirez.
All ropes and lines were hemp, and no winches!! And the fo'castle bunks were cupboards (a young German lass showed us how one would retire). The engine was a 3-cylinder, with a distinctive beat - dit.dit.dit.dah. .....

But back to the real world for most of us.

Gee whiz thats a beast to put in your beautiful little boat. My 30' 4000kg Currawong has a Yamnar 2GM20 and I couldn't imagine having a larger motor. The little Yamnar takes her up to almost 7 knots at full throttle and it will push Currawong against an ebb tide through the Rip (in calm conditions).

I would call that boat a "Dream boat"...The dream of owning it and the reality of owning it are two different perspectives.
Still we all can dream. And that costs zip!

I could have done with the 18hp but the 27 was only 21 kg heavier and importantly a 3 cylinder which was the real clincher.
Existing prop is feathering so easy to change the pitch.
I did want real punch through for a bit of southern cruising.

Hell no, that's way too big for me! That kelp catching keel and deep draft would drive me crazy even if I had a football team on board to handle the bits. Good value though.
