I've often heard it said that you get better marine products when you buy at trawler supply stores, because commercial fishermen don't have time to muck around with marine products that either break or don't work reliably. Using stuff 24/7, they quickly get to know what lasts and what doesn't, and their stuff may not always be cheaper. They also don't like shopping at leisure market boat stores (read Whitworths, Bias and "shiny-toy chandleries").
I currently have a list of plumbing and mooring items to buy and would like to go to one of these suppliers. But I don't know where they are. Does anyone know where the "trawler suppliers" are in Sydney?

The easiest for you would be Net supplies at the fish market. Not so many of these stores about now, most fisherman buy stuff off eBay like normal people or online stores. Plumbing stuff I buy at plumbing shops and mooring shackles, swivels etc from engineering firms that sell lifting gear etc. The only cordage I buy these days I get from my local "Boat dealer" who only sells Spectra or from Ebay if I can wait a few days. Better choice of cordage on eBay.
I always used to take a day off, weather permitting, and go shopping in Sydney and shop but the internet has changed everything.
