Hi

wanting to replace some counter top. The photo is from the chart table. I thought it was a melamine but the melamine I found in the hardware store is backed by MDF. Does anyone know what material this is? It appears to have the top laminate with a black synthetic backing.
I was thinking of using white Acrylic as a replacement but it will be a lot softer.

It looks like the Laminex used in shower recesses. About 4mm thick.

I think you are right! It is also melamine but for bathrooms according to Bunnings. Thanks.

The acrylic will probably scratch / scuff very easily and quickly?

Numerous boat websites recommend Corian but it looks very spendy..............

2 agents in Melb and looks like you can get samples.

As said previously, it looks like laminex or one of the clones. Build the counter out of the material of your choice, select laminex colour and finish, contact glue to your new counter then trim edges flush with the new counter and install. Laminex has been used on kitchen countertops for god knows how long and stands up to wear and tear very well.
