I guess like myself, most of us buy new nuts, bolts and washers when doing a job, even though we have perfectly good leftovers at home. I've been trying to use them up recently, going through the collections before I go to the chandlery but it still leaves me with a heap of older stuff I'm just not going to use.

My question, am I forced to send them to landfill, or if I put them in the recycling bin will they get made to something useful?

Drop them off at a scrap metal dealer, get your 50 cents and go for a sail

I'd love to have your problem mate. Here in Indonesia for 3 years and my stock is rapidly running out and 316 is something unheard of here. If I find 304 I feel so lucky.

Don't send them to landfill.
Offer them to a local sailing school if nothing else.

Give them to the neighbour and make it his problem and you can always nip over when you need one.
