With more and more boats being built and launched that are too big to be trailerable and with the mooring situation (in NSW that i know of) being at full capacity more than ten years ago i was wondering where all the old boats go to die ?
Like old cars end up at the wrecking yard and sold for parts, Is there any boat wreckers out there?
Might be a buisness idea in there?
Ebay or Gumtree.
With fibreglass boats its particularly difficult. While its common for yachts to sell for less than the value of its lead keel and various bits of alloy etc. Its hard to get rid of the fibreglass. Few years back when the Commonwealth government was buying out Commonwealth endorsements and fishing licences you had a choice whether to keep the boat or scrap it and get a nominal fee, I think it was $25,000. Some boats were worth less than that and if you showed evidence of the boat being destroyed you got the extra $25,000. My mate had his boat carted to the dump and hired a bull dozer to destroy it while he took photos. This proved to be very difficult and the dozer even ended up with a broken windscreen.
Old yachts like Endeavour 24's, Hoods etc with cast iron keels are just going to get cheaper!
