Hi all,

I've just joined this forum and look forward to being part of a stimulating discussion group!

I've been overhauling my 20 year old steel ketch over the past couple of years and during that time have relied heavily on Google (or your favourite search engine ) to find parts and helpful advice. However, I've now drawn a bit of a blank when looking for a yard that would be able to work with me on a repainting job for hull and topsides.

Like many (or most) boat owners, I'm not flush with spare cash - that's one of the reasons I've been doing all my own work thus far. Ideally I'd like to find a yard that would provide advice, expertise and where possible, let me assist with some of the work.

I suspect that some blasting will be needed for part of the preparation, so this probably limits the number of suitable yards.

Does anyone have any strong recommendations? My boat is located in the Central Coast, so anywhere between say Newcastle or Sydney would be suitable.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Talk to Smiley or Darby at Careel Bay Marina, Pittwater. Good guys and from what I've seen, great work.

Hi Nomadau,

Midcoast Boatyard (ex Noakes) in Newcastle are well set up for major painting jobs. Painting can be done in a covered shed, which to me would be important if you are spending significant $ on blasting, paints, hardstand etc.

I have had major work done there and was very happy with the standard. While my boat was in the yard I saw a couple of paint jobs and was impressed by the finished results.

I am not certain that they will meet your need for low cost.....

Careel don't do steel....unfortunately. Recommended City Marine...will keep looking and also try Newcastle.
