Salt water pump impeller from Johnson, just get the part number and buy off eBay. Oil filter cross match the number and buy from a truck filter supplier. Looks like there is a Baldwin to suit.

Ditto for filters - I buy Fleetguard fuel & oil filters from the local bus mechanical place for about 1/3 Yanmar prices. Google will get you the equivalents. Same goes for bearings and seals when I rebuilt the water pump and the gearbox. I make my own engine anodes out of anode zinc, roughly shaped and drilled and tapped to screw onto the holder. Ruptured fuel, oil and HP injector lines are nothing special, just use the correct tubing and reuse the connectors. The only "Yanmar" bits I buy for normal services are the impellers and oil.

I buy all my bits except impellers from super cheap. I wait until they have a sale and buy a few. It will save you a Sh@@load. Just cross reference the numbers for filters that match and buy a quality 15/40 engine oil. I still use SAE 30 in my gearbox. I even get my belts from them.

Yep. I think my last service cost me about 50 bucks.

To avoid any doubt that the oil spec is not right. The original stuff from Mariner in Melbourne is quite reasonably priced and a relatively small cost compared to the other parts..

That's right. The price is surprisingly reasonable compared to the other stuff, plus it isn't all that easy to find single-grade SAE30being sold in small quantities.

And while we are celebrating being stingy, water pump gaskets must be the most amazing rip-off - for about $10 I got enough gasket paper in a roll from Repco to make a gasket (takes just a minute or two) for every GM series engine ever made.

you do not actually have to use gasket paper, you can use a gasket maker silicone too. Or the grease paper from Coles labelled for baking.

Yanmar oil is cheaper at my Yanmar dealer than Supercheap.

Chart paper is also recommended for making gaskets. Standard proceedure in the navy.

We used to use some sort of black stuff in a yellow can for steam gaskets. I can't remember the name of it. It smelt just like vegemite but I never had the nerve to actually taste it.
