Ex Engine RoomTiffy 2. Joined 1966 and assessed as unsuitable in 1974. Moresby, Stalwart, Barbette and Assail.

It was a good life except for the double standards I refused to accept. The time of my discharge was when the outfit changed from Ratstruc to Sailstruc.

Hi Toph, I was on the Moresby just before I got out. Brisbane was 81 - 83.
I was 18yo old then and some of the old boys - (yeah, ancient - like 30 or even 35) - used to have some funny sayings:
" I've seen more lighthouses than you have $hithouses".
"I was in a rig (uniform) in Baghdad before you were liquid in ya Dads' bag".
No doubt some of the crusty ex Navy men on this thread will know a few more.........

You were ETP and on Moresby. She was diesel electric as I recall. We have both been down the same noisy hole, me 10 years earlier. I was ERA 3 then.

"Mad Mick" Calder was the skipper then and also the chief hydrographer I believe. His son Nigel wrote a really good book or two on yacht electrics etc.

Old pusser sayings?? Best I can come up with is "If it moves, salute it; if it shines, polish it; if it doesn't do anything, paint it.

The PTIs used to come out with some pretty rough stuff if they had a squad of WRANS.
