I have never heard it before but it sure makes a lot of sense.

If you put it another way ...... Quality is cheap.
Have a look and see if you can find a Documentary called "The High Cost of Low Prices" this docco was about Wal-Mart in the US but the same comparisons can made to companies like Bunnings and Masters.
Giant retailers that flood the market with crap products, mostly sourced from Asia where they are made to a price point rather than to a quality standard.
The blame for this lies squarely at the feet of the retailers who when asked how much they want to retail it for nominate the quality by setting the retail price point. Of course the bogans support this by wanting everything cheaper than what it was last week.
