Has to be one of the best places for DW foiling. This was a run from today which was far from perfect for WA standards but still bloody good if you from anywhere out side this WA coast line.
Good to see the SA boys killing it in the foils plus getting a feel for the NEW ONE foil boards which are bloody amazing!!
Great video Jacko which LOL where you on
That was on a 1600 but have been mixing up with the 1300 when conditions were right.
We did a full run two days ago in some good conditions with James Casey, Marcus and Ben and really it was pretty dead even the whole way with us all doing the run which is 24.7km long in 1hour exact, all within one or two bumps of each other the whole way.
Ben and myself were on LOL 1600
Marcus was on the 900 Axis or a flatter version of it from the looks of it.
Jimmy was on the 180GL or a proto of a wing very similar.
Ben, myself and Jimmy all very close with each of us having faster moments at different points of the run, Marcus was a few bumps back but he could have had a of weed ??
nice paul.j and tell us more about those new foil board when you get a chance
Will put a bunch of info and pics up in a few days when we get a few more over here in Perth.
But as a quick outline we have 2 new models with a 5'10 x 27.5 x 107L recessed deck and a 6'5 x 29 x 127L with an recessed and all molded sandwich PVC so crazy strong and super light.

I like the look of that 5'10 x 27.5 x 107L and do you think that will be ok for 80kg beginner to intermediate foiler as I was thinking around 115-120ltrs and show us some pics top, side and bottom etc?

Will upload a bunch tomorrow but did get this pic today which has new board in it.
And yes the 5'10 with suit 80kg easy.
Do you think the race will be more competitive on the foil division compared to SUP?
A few guys are racing in the doctor race tomorrow so might be a good test to see how things will play out for weekend KOTC.
The sup race for KOTC will still be super tough and the foils will be tight if our runs so far are anything to go off. I am sitting out the Doctor race and just enjoying my DW time south so it will be cool to hear how the boys go tomorrow as the forecast looks pretty good.
The " Bourbon Brothers " Trav & Scotty smashing it !
Keep out of the way of John " the Animal " too when the starting siren sounds.
Pics of the new boards below and more on the website here www.oneoceansportsaustralia.com/shop/foil-downwind
Ben just won the doctor race today on the prototype of the new production board.
Nice boards.
From instagram James Cassey :
Fun Day on the Water Foiling the Doctor ????? Was a classic hare and the tortoise battle with @bentardrew80 ?? just 8 seconds separated us at the end for line honours ????
?
He decided to foil with the weed and go slower for the entire run ?? ?
I on the other hand stopped 5 times to clear the weed, going faster in between hitting the weed but losing a lot of time when stopping and getting rid of the seaweed ??
?
I used the @gofoil GL180, which seemed like the right wing until I got weed, just need to invent a weed foil ?? maybe more rake necessary. Excited to do a few more foil runs down at Mandurah next week leading up to @kotc.wa but I'll be racing on the Unlimited SUP ?
PC @kent.wright.77 and big thanks for dropping us at our startline and running safety ??

Haha the number one rule of foil racing, always have a excuse ready. Good to see the old I got weed coming into play
It was always going to be a tight race as the runs we did we super close so good to see tight racing!
Will be quite a few more for the KOTC race and there seems to be less weed here so hopefully it stays like this.
Many people feel like they go faster with the weed.... but they usually make a point of having it before the run, not during.
The guys getting ready for the Doctor race, so good to watch I have some footage that I will put up of the start when I get a chance. I have a long way to go and may never get it but watching these guys just inspired me more, so it won't be through lack of trying.
I'm down at Mandurah now and hanging out to give it a crack in the coming days.
thanks for the pics paul.j and nice board and looks like there are a lot going on the top of the board. What's the weight difference approx between the non-carbon and carbon 5"10"? A good result by your team on the foil KOTC

A 5'10 x 27.5 x 107L carbon is low 6kg and min carbon is high 6kg, not much in it really but sometimes a few grams can feel really nice.
Nice boards.

I think the seaweed issue is gonna be the number one excuse for foiling, haha

Looks like it was windy enought for foiling.
Lets wait for Jako's report.
Was it the exact same run (same start, same finish line ?)

I think the first 6 home flew the whole way.
I did the race on a wing foil, great fun but fairly marginal conditions and hard work for the first few ks.
Us wingfoilers may have got up and going first but the paddle foilers, Ben, Jacko, Marcus, etc blew me away with how fast they flew by.
Much respect and envy.
Nice work by Guy Linton and Scott McKercher on the wings as well both leaving me in their wake.
I took the cautious approach due to the light wind and went with the big 102 front wing which was no match for the high aspect wings of the others but at least I finished.
Thanks Chris Le Messurier for the great shots.
