I'm new to SUP foil downwind and was wondering if anyone can recommend any good spots in Perth to learn? I've been wing foiling for a while now and have surfed and SUPed (not foil) for years. Cheers in advance!

Train on the river to get balance and power. Plenty of crew out on weekends on windless days.

The easiest ocean run is Port Beach rock wall to Dutch Inn (South Cott). A 4km ocean run that can take 15 minutes on foil or 1 hour depending on how much you paddle.

When winter storms set in the Westerlies winds
can be good for downwinding in the River from Point Walter to Applecross Jetty. Again about 4km in a straight line. Easy to do multiple runs on a windy day with a crew of people.

Once the basics are mastered longer downwind coast runs are possible from Fremantle all the way to Hillary's boat harbour.

Yep as Baldy said,

As I live North though I pretty much learnt doing the run from Pinnaroo Point to Mullaloo, or Trigg (paddle out at a little keyhole just North of where the boat ramp is) to Watermans/Sorrento.
Generally though the bumps are easier to get up on down Cottesloe way though for some reason.
The river when its a cranking Westerly from Point Walter to Applecross, or Easterly, Applecross to Point Walter, is actually a really good place to learn as there is no swell or seaweed to deal with and the bumps are fairly slow and (relatively) easy to get up on.
Prepare to be humbled but in the end rewarded.

This is great info for those of us that would like to visit. What are the seasons in Perth? Obviously summer but how early does the season start and what is best month or time for consistency for visitors? Do you guys extend your season by heading north?
Thanks for any help.
