From what I've heard - aimed at Efoiling market, rather than foil assist. Significantly more run time but also comes with a weight penalty.

I've obviously completely lost touch with the direction FD is heading as making an already very heavy setup a 2.5kg heavier efoil is an odd choice of gamechanger.

It's aimed at the heavy guys, those with middle age spread and plenty of cash.
The laws of physics don't allow for light weight with decent power and runtime for anyone heavier than 90kgs. Yes you can make do using wave assist or bigger front wings to get going but not everyone has the skill or waves to allow that.
I see comments saying the Gen 2 is fine for heavier riders if you comprise, but who wants to do that.

nice video about the Fusion, Piros. But wondering your thoughts on who this setup is best for. As a slightly heavier guy (90 kgs), but with no interest in pure efoiling, does it make sense to spend the extra money to get a Fusion over a Max? I suppose the run time could justify it, but 2 Max batteries would seem to equal one Fusion (in run time) and is still cheaper than the Fusion.

The primary design of the Fusion is more power and run time which will let larger riders get up so much easier with almost double the life of a Max battery. Faster starts lead to less battery burn . For me ( 86kg) I can get up on crazy small foils like the F-One 516 cm2 Momentum or Eagle X 600 cm2 and I can go 10 to 15 km upwind then turn and DW home on 770cm 2 foils. It still surfs amazingly well but everyone has it stuck in their head it's too heavy , it would be if the entire battery was mounted in front of the mast but it's not. This just happens to make it good as an efoil but that was never the intended market. If you are a larger guy and don't have a FD already the Fusion is definitely for you . When you lay on it and pull the trigger for the first time , it's a wow moment.
