sup.star-board.com/products/hyper-foil/

There's some nice footage of Zane in the link above. I thought there was a trend emerging that the best strapless sup foilers (James Casey, Keahi etc) had boards 6ft or just over and it was only those using straps that have boards closer to 5ft. However, Zane seems to be ripping on something waaay under 6 ft in the vid. Which leads me to a gripe.... the smallest one of these boards you can actually buy is 6'4"! Why oh why do starboard insist on showing Zane on a board at least a foot shorter? It's fine to let him ride a fake production board day to day... but on the actual product market video??

Interesting. I always ask - HOW MUCH????

But - It needs footstraps inserts.

Look at his foot at 57 seconds just BEGGING FOR A STRAP.

I have to be honest it is painful to watch people foiling without straps. It looks 30% less 'performant' than it could be.

Straps. Horses for courses.

Perhaps similar to the 'strapped Vs unstrapped' kitesurfing surfboards....

Depends on preference and/or conditions. Can totally see the performance function of straps for foiling, especially for the pump factor. I however prefer the more natural feel of being 'nude'....but horses for courses

Disclaimer: I am no where near a ''performance" foiler.....

I disagree Beasho & agree with stevet73..... I've been foiling for 18 months now without footstraps....I sup foil, prone foil & downwind & don't feel i need them but i think it depends what you're use to & prefer...

Looks pretty good. The future is in shapes that don't suck down and release the off easy an dont get stuck in the water surface "tension" at lift off. Maybe those channels do work I dunno.

Did you also notice the paddle he was using?

It seems to happen every year with one brand or another.

Is it me or does every thread have to involve straps or no straps? lol

It's literally like if every surfboard discussion had to include a talk about who's using a stomp pad or wax.

I am not shocked that they do the weird video thing. They've done stuff like that for years. Every time I see a guy my size in the lineup on a SB I feel bad knowing they bought that boat to surf based on seeing Zane rip on some custom board with half the volume.

Yeah I've windsurfed for nigh on 30 years so believe me I'm more than used to pics of custom boards faking their way into product catalogues. They're usually in the same solar system dimensions wise though. I think this is the most blatant effort I've ever seen in 30 yrs of watersports though... that board is at least a foot shorter than the smallest (6'4") they actually sell.

I'm just teasing. There's a ton to work out still 8n this sport.

As to the video, yeah 20% variance seems a bit much lol.
