Conditions: 3-4ft 10kts offshore wind

I'm an intermediate rider, have been suping in the waves for 3 years, am 80kgs, 6ft, 57 years old

I normally ride an 8'10 fanatic Prowave (119ltrs), so I was looking forward to a lower volume board because I've been feeling for a while I need to go smaller.

I found the stubby reasonably stable although I had some trouble with the 10knt wind and chop when I first got on it, but I soon dialled into it. Paddling for the wave, I found the board to have good acceleration, making it easy to catch the wave despite the wind. I had no problems with the stub nose pearling.

I'd been tending to think that there was a bit of exaggeration about the speed of these style of boards, but on my first pretty solid wave I was amazed at how this board exploded into action. The speed was exhilarating and the board felt very grippy giving me lots of confidence. The board is really loose and turns beautifully once you get your foot over the tailpad. I really enjoyed my 2 hour session on the stubby. If there were any negatives, I would say that because the board has a widenose, it tends to get thrown upwards when trying to get back out over white water, but that could just be my lack of technique and I found the board to be a little bit heavier than my prowave, which can be an issue on long walks to the surf

However, generally I felt the board flattered my wave riding and this style of board is a great option for weekend warriors like myself, that are not highly skilled and often have less than ideal conditions to surf in. I would also like to demo the sunova speed to compare the two.
