the 12'6 javelin how do it compare with last years 12'6 catalina? Is it faster in flat water?
I'm guessing that the old Cat might be slightly faster in flat water as long as the paddler is not too heavy.. but the new Jav would be much better going in and out through the surf like in a BOP race and you can move back on the board better doing turns etc because of the deck shape.. IMO the new Jav is a much better board and the one to go for.

Hi DJ
I think you are spot on about the speed between the jav and cat.
I was lucky to take home a 12'6 from my lokal naish shop in varberg, todo a long test on home ground.
I have times and speed(GPS) from paddling my Catalina, so I easy could compeare the two.
I'm 77 kg, so a light weight paddler.
The speed deference was small between 0.1 to 0.3 km/t. Over 4.7 km loop on flat water.
To me the catalina was the fastest, but I think a bit of getting use to standing a bit higher, will make up for the speed deference.
To me the biggest deference is the easiness of moving around on the jav and the stability. In choppy water i'm sour the jav is quicker, or if you are a bigger paddler.
