The board goes ok in small surf but cannot be compared in any way to the element. The element is more stable, a better paddler, has more drive, more speed and is just a sweeter allround board. The noseriding ability of the starboard fish models also does not compare to the element and you will find the fishes dont really have any tail hold whilst on the nose and they just dont flow like an element or similar board. I should clarify also because you are talking about the old 9.8 x 28.5 - are you comparing it to the new element or the old element ? these two boards are also very different - older one nose-rides nice but new one better in good surf - guess it kinda depends on what your main needs are for the board. IMO - if noseriding is important - buy a longboard - IF having fun on the best allround sup that starboard have ever made is important - buy an element.
does this board really have more speed and drive??? i thought the pro would leave the element behind in these areas due to its more radical shaping..... interested in both these boards at the mo--- have tried a pro but not an element...
