Well it's exactly one year ago now that I bought my first SUP - a 9'3" ripper off AA - and it's amazing how much has happened in the world of SUP since then

At the time most of the top guys were riding 9+ boards and I remember Casso reviewing the 9'3" as a state of the art performance board. Since then (in just 12 months) some of the things that have evolved:

- Lots more sub 9 foot pop outs on the market
- More people riding Customs
- A few SUP clubs have formed (the Sydney one for example)
- Lots more SUP surfing comps and races
- Tonnes of new brands from both new players and from companies new to SUP
- SUP was introduced to the Aussie surfing titles
- The standard has risen dramatically!
- More SUPs in the line up (a bit scary)

Please add anything to the list that has happened in your neck of the woods over the last year.

Still having fun

Shapes have been refined, especially the rockers and work really well now.

For sure Hilly.

Is anyone on a different board now to what they were on 12 months ago?

Probably a better question is anyone NOT on a different board

I am about to get on my third

Forth I think

From the start

Previous boards last 2 years though cheating a bit
11 6 Naish
10 8 JL
9 8 Starboard
9 6 WR PSH

Now have
10 custom PSH
12er PSH
9 9 Mano JL

There are now heaps of boards out there I would love to try.

I see paddle designs have changed a bit in less than a year. I've gone from a 9" wide blade to one thats 8.2" wide and will probably go narrower yet.

is that this week, or that you HAVEN'T reviewed....

started almost 12 months ago myself. First board was a 10'7" Takayarma by surftech. Awesome for its length and only 27 1/4 wide, surfed really well (once I learn't how to surf!). Just got a Chris Garett 9'8", was ment to be a 9'4" but thats another story.....NO MISTAKE MADE BY CHRIS GARRETT. Surfed it 4 times and loving it. About to add another to the line up, Chris Garret 9.0

Still on my original Quickblade, but have been eyeing of the new C4 paddles.....mmmmm nice

A question, are quads the future for Sups???

I wouldn't even be able to remember how many boards I have ridden (over 100 at a guess), from the first proto type boards in Maui way back in 2002/03 I think? maybe earlier. But I have owned..

- 10'6" x 25" Poly Naish
- 11'6" Naish Nalu
- 10'6" Naish Nalu
- 9'6" Naish Hokua
- 9'3" Naish Hokua
- 12' Naish Glide
- 8'10" Naish Hokua
- 10' Naish Mana
- 8'4" Naish Houka

Keep progressing, keep upgrading, keep getting better.......

Love it.

While surfing SUPs got smaller the downwind/flatwater SUPs seem to getting longer and narrower not that I claim to know anything about them.

Started on a Laird 12'2 in Nov 2007 then PSH 11, PSH 10'6 WAA, PSH 9'6WAA, PSH 12Gun, Starboard 7'2, DC 9'4> Love the DC. 9'4 in solid waves and the PSH 12Gun in anything really.

Best Flatwater board I have ridded was a Dean Snow 12.6 and the best DW 12'2 Laid.

... for a clash of the Champion's Jacket wearers.

In the last 12 months I've gone from:

Boards:
- Oxbow 9'6"
- Naish 9'3"
- PSH 9'3"
- DC 8'10"
- DC 8'8"
- DC 8'6"

I think that's about as short as I'll ever go (but then again I said that at 9'6").

Paddles:
- GSI 9"
- Kialoa 8.5"
- Kialoa 8"
- Kialoa 7.25"
- Quick Blade 8.25" (but that is for racing)

The disappointing thing is that I don't think my surfing has improved all that much (although it did heaps in the previous 12 months).

And as Jedi pointed out I launched a national SUP magazine and consequently crashed it into the ground! Woops.

90kg Started sup 6 months ago on psh 10 6 waa now also have 9 9 mano
enjoy both boards especially since I have found the right fin set up on the psh. The fins on the mano were right from the start.

Still wobbly on the mano with wind, chop, backwash or bigger wave turbulence. Aspiration for gun for confidence in bigger waves.

Hay d man.

Yeah I saw my new Sup in tullys factory jst after the Noosa comp. It looked like a good board. It'd the first board I'll have with the pointy nose. I'm hoping it will feel more like my shortboards which are 6'1 haha. It's 8'2. Tully and I won't b going any less then 8 ft for at least awhile.

Mate i'll give u a go on it if I make it up to the raw comp. I heard it's a qualifying comp for the queenslanders.

are you some kind of cop serge. i did that for fun. you seem intent on making some sort of issue with me. i'm not interested in your motives, agenda or snide remarks or accusation type questions or whoever is feeding you your lines(referring to malfunction race) especially from a person who has only surfed for a year. i would have thought a person who was making big statements about downwind designs would have had a couple dw racing boards in his name. you have managed to pi## off a lot of people on the goldie. i have also received pm's asking me what the go is with your attacks.i have some had support for what i do and i realize not everyone is going to like it, but you my friend are just plain nasty. if i have to facing this negative stuff from you, i'm not going to bother with the forum
cheers
