That is just so cool. I love it.

I reckon in a couple of years we will be laughing at how in the "olden days" we used to ride 11 and 12 foot boards.

Some of his turns were so fast and tight! I thought he was going to snap his ankle! Anyone on here tried a board that short? makes my 9 6" look like a tanker!

I would love a SUP that you could flick around like that! interesting times ahead.
I better start clearing some space in the garage.

I got an idea that may sound a little crazy but why doesn't someone make a 6' board a little over 18" wide and 2 1/4" thick and see if they can get it going without the paddle? They may need to lie down to get onto the wave but imagine the freedom of having your hands free and not having the constraint of having to have a board big enough to stand on out the back.
Nay, this could never happen but makes you wonder.

Hey Boardbumps,

Any chance you could whip up a 7' prototype for the OG Fun Day?
I'll have a go and give some feedback! You may struggle to get it back though!

That Kainoa (Not the Kainoa that charges Pipe) is a very light guy. He's surfing well on that little board. Robin has been doing good ones and their surfing shows it.

I gotta say... Robin rips too! I saw another video and he was killing it on a longer board around 7-8 or something. Good work. Between Luke Egans surfing and these guys, I've got to say I'm stoked!!! Innovation is the mother of all RIPPING!!!

C'mon blanks! I need blanks!!

Did they paddle on or lay down paddle and then just use the paddle when they are surfing as the video never shows them paddleing

Pretty sure they stand-up paddled.

It's kinda funny. Videos of guys ripping on nice waves on a shortish board are as common as dog's balls.

Video of a full grown man (even a hobbit) standing and paddling a 6'6" board in the surf, that's something unusual that I'd like to see.

Great moves and these guys can really surf but did you see how much the board was bouncing ? too much area in the nose and tail.If the boards keep getting shorter they will be paddling on a round disc, the shorter they get the fatter they get.

These super short fat boards are really loose but you loose the ability to draw or carve a turn. As grommits start coming into this sport weighing nothing I think we can expect to see these short boards around the 26" mark in width and they'll probably start popping airs.

The sport changing fast and it's hard to get your head around it all , who knows we may see factory sub 8-0's in 2010. I'd better go back on my diet.

That's funny Piros,
I didnt see it like that at all.
I saw vert bottom turns with with fins out top turns, classic "s" style.
It's interesting how a we all see it in a different perspective. I saw banana's and you saw some were "lemons".
6'6" is cool cos I am guessing the shorter guy maybe 50kg drippin wet.
For us chubbies 90kg, 8' to 8"5 works. (I am 92kg and riding an 8'3")
You could do some numbers for those less in weight.
I would guess a 70kg person could ride a 7'6".
In glassy conditions, give it a try.

Too late its already been done for 2009.
Starboard have THE TIKI at 8'5 x 28" and the POCKET ROCKET also at 8'5 but by 30"
And I think they also do a 7'2?

Buckets Its all about throwing buckets, Power surfing rules and Luke Egan was One of the best on a surf board Now his throwing buckets on a sub.

Its all relative, as scotty said for guys over 95 kg anything from 8 ft to 9 6" is small, A decent skilled guy at 75 kg should easily be able to ride a 7 ft sub, horses for courses.

hmmmmmmm 6'6,

I have to say I have seen Matty L busting moves equaly as impressive or more so on his PSH 9'3 and then he blew our minds doing helicopters and nose riding Niki's 7'2.

I dont really know his weight but I would guess 85 ish and 6ft tall!

But then Matty could ride my garage door and make it look like a sweet ride!!!!!!!!

Taps Greenie on the shoulder and says the STARBOARD 7.2 looks like this

PRONE SURFING????? What is that it will neva catch on just a fad to fill in time while waiting for your next SUP.

Had this crazy idea last night after watching that video - go with me on this.....something like a standamaran but really short with surf rails and shape. Two cross tubes linking the "pods", paddle out wide, super stable then when you're on the wave pull your legs together, velcro or magnets or blue tack hold them together and off you go.

You would feel a bit like Malcolm and the boyfriend getting away from the cops in the Honda Z in that great Aussie movie Malcolm
