Went into the local to order the naish 9 6 " , they dont deal them, but they do have and for an ( make that can get) excellent price from global surf industries a 7s uber fish 9 8 " it looks very similar to the naish 9 6" . I have had 7s surfboard before and went quite good, it says in the info for it though that it is for people who weigh 90 kg i am 100kg. I was wondering if anyone had a go on one yet and what did they think, i am seriously considering getting one, i am hoping my advanced level suping in the surf will compensate for the 10 extra kilos, dj any thoughts mate ?

Brooko,

I strongly recommend trying both boards if you can. The performance of the 9'6" has been unmatched by any other board on the market (by a long shot), it is really something special. I am bummed that you didnt't get the chance to try it, because it would leave no doubt in your mind. I am going to be back over at ocean grove wednesday morning for a paddle with Murf's (longboards), if you can make it. I have not ridden the uber fish yet, but I saw the first production ones at Noosa. Just be careful that it is not just a short longboard (rocker!), there is a big difference between a short longboard SUP and a shortboard SUP, and if it is performance you are after, the Naish 9'6" has it is the bag. If you prefer dealing through your local, ask them to get in touch with us at Windgenuity or through seabreeze (PM me). Take note of everyones stoke once they ride this board, it is some really good!

Speak soon,

JB

Cheers for getting back, no chance of me getting over that way and the surf is cracking here today so i am taking my brand new 6 10 " maurice cole board for a surf to seek out some barrells (hope the knee stands up) . I am actually just as worried about the thing floating me well as the performance, i would prefer the naish, because i think even the jimmy lewis in the 9 ft range may have trouble floating big guys , i will get shane from the local surf shop Gunnas surf portland to get on to you guy.

Brooko,
I was a one thinking "yeah sure". The Naish 9'6" does not even look real pretty but believe me, JB is right, that board is by far ahead of its time and I was suprised how well it turned but it was a so easy to ride also.

Scott

I had a quick paddle on the 7S fish at Noosa. I jumped straight from the Kalama 11'6" onto the 9'8" and didn't think I would stand a chance (I am around 97kg) but in the mellow waves of First Point it was no problems at all.
The Naish 9'6" is a fantastic shortboard style and would throw round better than the 7S but I think the Uber Fish would have more float. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to paddle the Naish. By the sounds it is easier to use than it's smallness would indicate.

I also rode the 7S Uber fish at Noosa but the waves were smallish that day, the width and thickness are quite similar.

7S Uber fish 9'8 x 29 1/2" x 4 1/2

Naish fish 9'6" x 29 1/4 x 4 3/8

So after riding the Naish (im 85kgs) in small waves here with JB, this 9'6" is built with surfers in mind and very user friendly & stable for it's size ... it's the rocker that's worth a good look ,this board want's to be pushed harder and ridden off the tail not like a lot of longboard style SUP boards.
The Uber Fish still is a great option that would accommodate a heavier rider but the Uber does not have a center carry handle like Naish range. Uber has a center back fin set up option or quad.

I own a Naish 10'6 and are very happy with the quality / performance....i now need a 9'6" Naish .

Brooko we could order a board for you if you decide to buy one , think they are sold out till Sept 08.

A bunch of us had a paddle of the Naish 9,6" on Saturday ranging in weight from 80-95kg. We were all post-beginners. Not expert but we know how to paddle and stay on a board.

It was definitely tippy but very easy to handle and very predictable. None of us fell off. Some of the paddling was into a 20 knot headwind with short, hard chop.

Obviously it would not be a good flat water board by any means but it's basic paddling capabilities are fine.

You will have to try for yourself to see how it goes in the waves. JB sounds very impressed and he seems to be a pretty credible kind of guy.

I rode the Naish 9'6" last week in good 3 foot waves (see my review: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39577) and have organised to ride a demo of the 7S Uber Fish 9'8" tomorrow. It should be good surf again and about the same size so it'll make for a good comparison.

I'll endeavour to write up a review of the 7S 9'8" after my session tomorrow.

my bad casso , i was tripping its just i have a 6 8 2 1/2 " thick and a 6 8 2 3/8 " thick and the 2 3/8 is easier to paddle and floats me better than the 2 1/2 all to do with the plan shape, rails and rocker. Ever since then for some crazy reason i think vica versa with the thickness

Surfboards have always been in feet and inches.

I tend to agree with you but.

Im not sure on all your weigh ins but to me it looks like the back half of the board is under water? That seems like alot of drag to me? How many litres is the 9'6? Also remember your in the safety of the harbour... wait until you get this board in the surf! Just my opinion...

U sacrifice the floation and steadyness of the board for performance.

I don't think that the 9'6 is that far underwater. All if the boards that i have ridden 10 ft and under the tail is generally always under water. Just my opinion....

Greenroom,
I am 90kg (and a 3/4 wettie) and rode this board in surf and it is pretty easy. Easier than a JL10 (which I used to own) and easier than tha PSH 9'6" than I own now.
Its pretty wide at 29 1/4 inches.

Before those pictures were taken we paddled out of the harbour into the wind chop. Not surf but definitely something that could knock you over. It wasn't a problem. Later DJ and I paddled out on the 11'4 and an 11'6" and did get knocked off.

If you look at all the photos all of the boards have the tails underwater except the ULI.

Can't wait to ride the 9'6 this wkend . Goldie looks like it will still have some swell for the wkend aswell.
Some bigger sets rolling thru currumbin this arvo, to big for me so i was just a spectator.
Good to see some local sup's getting out and catching some bomb waves with fast big rides.

Sorry Brooko, the demo 7S 9'8" Fish didn't arrive until this afternoon and I had meetings to attend by then. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow morning and write a review after that.

$600 is nothing for the performance you'll get every session! Read Casso's review. It's pretty much the same story when any board is compared to a 9'6" Naish.

JB's right ... for a high performance board the 7S 9'8" doesn't compare to the Naish 9'6". Check out my reviews here:
