Have you considered hiring a board on the days you can get out, until you decide you can splash out and buy your own.

I hired a board and paddle for 2 days in Byron which cost me $50. You do the maths - weigh up the opportunities you get to go out, along with the right conditions for supping. For me I reckon $950 I could probably get a year out of a hire board and paddle without any responsibility.

Spend the $950 going on surf trips. The money goes to people for food and fuel and accommodation and you get a multiplier effect when they spend the money locally.

Love ya MAC - the BIGGEST SH!$ stirrer on the Breeze!!

I've just done the math - most decent boards in Hawaii cost US$1500 at todays rate thats $2238!!

WOW - its cheaper to buy boards in OZ than in the US - GOOTA BE A WORLD FIRSZT!!

But then again there is always EBAY - major supporters of DEMO tours, ripping local groms, contest and down wind races.

I say. if you have lees than a grand - BUNDY UP!!

Hey Mac
You could buy that blow up board for $1100 as you are so full of hot air the inflation would not be a problem and it may be large enough to carry you .
Cheers Dolla

With the goverment hand out of $950.00 if you quailfy?
I was trying to get a feel as to how much would be spent
locally to boost retail sales! Not that I wanted to spend mine
on a SUP, I don't need another at this stage and I don't
quailfy anyway

AA ,I wasn't stirring the pot so to speak, not this time haha

Dazman, we both know the truth who is full of hot air it's not me

So, If I was to re-post this topic it would sound like this!

Could not agree more with this comment. Have we become so elitist that anyone not riding the latest Naish/Starboard etc is being looked on as second class !! Bollocks ! get out there on whatever you can afford and learn the basics and work on your technique and try other peoples boards and when you can afford it and you know what you really want/need then take the plunge into a "premium" if and when you can afford it. Call me a skeptic though, but have you noticed that you don't need to spend in excess of $2000 to get the sup stoke !! There are some excellent sups for sale now in australia for well under $2000 so don't feel pressured to have to be on a "fashionable" brand - if you are enjoying the board you are riding and it is doing what you want it to do then stick with it and just have fun and don't get so wrapped up in the hype. If you need advice go to a shop that sells a wide range of boards and the advice will be a lot less unbiased and honest and don't be afraid to ask loads of questions - if they can't help you or confuse you then go somewhere else.
