I like to get up close and personal, so what better way than out in the line up.

When we did the shoot we got some absolute cracker pics.

Here are a couple of sample images the keepers are being used for another project.

Nikon d80 with an 50mm f1.4

Some of the shots we got are totally of the hook!

Mr Bartles, Kristi and Team Snow Storm ate way tooooooo many snakes before they went out that day and totally blew it up in some small waves.

Hey Dale,

Well Dean made my relatively new 3/2 a throw away after he did a full throttle nose ride five over straffing run inches from me.

Rich took the big move points hands down getting the board as far up on a rail as is possible, the people that have seen the pic just freaked out.

Rich is just shreading on the DC 8'10, Kristi got pic of maybe the year not a big move but its probably the best surf pic I have ever taken.

Hey Camo,

Not really, I just painted a target on my forehead paddled out on my knees and sat on the board on the shoulder. With the week I have had it was pure therapy.

Unfortunately I think I am still a long way away. Not going to push it and I am having so much fun behind the lens, i really dont care at this point.

Rich and I have a whole new use for the Go Pro and if it works you will get some very interesting pics and vid if we pull it off.

Is that the 50mm prime lens?
Also, what housing do you use out in the water?

Hey Robdog,

If we can help yell out happy to assist with boards etc if we can.

I only took a few pics of the Mal riders so I guess he had the Robdog style.

Are you running floaties or boogie board Phill or working on the endurance treading water?

I'd last about 2 minutes out there!

Hi Brendon,

after being told I should go professional by a number of people, Kristiana and I are partners in "Sea Me Surf" Photography.

We already have 2 commercial assigments and are open to casual bookings for quiver shots, in water work etc.

I will be working to raise the profile of women and girls in stand up paddling over the next 12 months.

We will be holding an exhibition on 17th Jan 2010 combined with a paddle board display and a shaping exhibition.

So I guess stay tuned!

Phill

Hey Tux,

I agree the surfmats are great and I may use one on the future. I only do the water shots where necessary or like in this situation the background is to good to pass up.

Phill

Phil, just my 2 bobs worth.....study "the theory of thirds"
try not to have the horizon in the middle of the photo.
It can add more to a pic if you keep it lower third or upper
third, your position of the subject matter is perfect in the
pic of your daughter abd the longboarder, and these shots
are pleasing to look at because the person is in the third
of the shot. Try re-cropping some of the others, if you want
them to stand-out. and not look too much like "happysnaps"
Great shots!!

Hey PS,

I hope we catch up again, I have been very lucky and met some awesome people on this site.

I am having a ball at the moment helping show what some of the sea breeze member can do, I dont think I have ever had so much fun.

They have been very generous with thier time and a photographer with out a model is just a man holding a camera.

Dean, Adam, Kevin, Rich, Lummers, Ross, Kristi, Ilva, Hanna, Dave etc, etc, etc, have stopped me from going crazy while I have been injured. I own all of them a great deal.

The smile on someones face when they see themselves rippin just does it for me.
Its like being a grommet all over again. I just keep looking for a way to show them how much they are progressing.

I havent had this much passion for a sport and a hobbie in a long time.

Wishing you the best in your travels PS.

Catch up soon

Phill

my two bobs, all of the above. people look at pictures from left to right generally, so with the the thirds bit, all so try to keep the main subject to the right. a nice shot will have an almost left to right bottom to top framing about it. a classic example is that famed chopes photo- reef drain. it has to be an exceptional photo for a centre shot to be real good
ps this just general photography guidelines, any photography book will show this

What if the wave is breaking left? How can it appear on the right of the frame???

Great Shots og - keep up the good work. Great to see more affordable photography equipment and digital technology opening up photography, to more enthusiasts.

you will just have to get further inside the impact zone you will probably find the tops shooters still manage it
