Yesterday in Melbourne we had a brief taste of Summer for our day at Torquay.

The morning was freezing with 9 deg at 5.30am and it even dropped to 7 deg driving through the city.. I loaded my two Naish boards..The 11'4" and Glide.

There were balloons floating around the city..That's always a good sign for no wind and glassy conditions.

We drove past the new Melbourne eye or whatever that thing's called.

One and a half hours later we were at Torquay..Blue sky's and sunshine..and no wind.

I stopped at Fisho's and was a little disappointed the see no swell..but it often never gets in there anyway.

Once at Point Danger I could see Oliver and a few others were already out and having fun on the little knee high waves at Mini tubes.

I unloaded the boards and got the Glide ready for my friend Anne to take for a paddle across the flat water..She's only paddled a few times now.

I got my 11'4" out and hit the waves..There were about 10 of us sharing the little waves off the point.

Sorry I didn't get any pics out on the water but next time I'll have my new GoPro waterproof camera..We had great fun and Matt was ripping like usual.

As the tide dropped we got forced off the point and back into Cosey corner but there was a great little one foot wave giving us long rides down the beach.

Everyone was keen to try the Glide and we were all surprised that it worked well on the little wave..We caught waves that you would normally miss and stay on the longer as it glided along. Matt was turning it off the tail and even getting up to the nose.

I left with Matt and Rich saying that they are defiantly going to buy a Glide after trying mine.

There were soon people everywhere..School holidays and being a weekend will do that in Torquay.

Pack up time..and time to chat to some other Breezers that I've never met.

I drove across to the main Torquay beach and watched as Matt ripped it up out off the point in front of the lifesaving club..and the people kept coming.

Looking back towards the point with the low tide rocks everywhere.

The surf shops usually lie but this time got it pretty right.

Back on the road home..The day was getting cold again as grey skys came back to Melbourne.

Gee David,

just so you keep doing it, we (can I speak for other?) love your little pictorials.
I feel like a kid at bedtime, being thrilled by a simple but enthralling tale.

keep up the good work.

Cheers

I think Crocs are great for SUP.. I started wearing them because I had no deck grip and didn't want to use wax.. They grip great on a smooth glossy surface.. They almost grip too good.

I also have to carry my board across a couple of busy roads from where I park and because my feet are not that tuff I hate doing the Ooh!..Aar!..Ouch! thing as I carry it.

I also often paddle in rocky areas and after years of windsurfing and so many foot cuts they are great if you have to jump/fall off above rocks.

They are also great for those long paddles were your feet often hurt.. Crocs are so soft and spongy in the sole..I wear them all day at work and so do so many others at the hospital..No matter how funny they may look.

I like 'em...but they are not that good for surfing.. You can't shuffle around the board on them because they are so grippy.. and I once have had one float up to the surface next to me after a big dumping..

I've heard a lot of people say that they get sore feet SUP'ing..Croc's might be the answer for them.

Hey DJ, you might have found the answer to my sore feet. No dramas in the surf but if i go on a flat water paddle my feet kill after an hour or so. I do have very flat feet so maybe crocs or booties are the go. You wont see me in them at my local break though...
